The next morning I set off to the North Rim, just in time for some rain that turned briefly to hail and sun. Made for a lovely ride. The sight of 7 mule deer bounding across the highway, the wild turkeys at the Park entrance and the buzzing by a red tail hawk just added to the magic.
The North Rim is breathtaking. You don't even miss the Colorado River (not a chance of seeing it at this side). The weather and the canyon pull you in. The short walk down Bright Angel Trail is made much more interesting without rails or barriers between you and hundreds of feet of air. More rain made the trail a little slicker. After more walking, I decided to ride on to Fredonia on Rte 89 to mail a dreamweaver home to my art teacher husband. Fredonia was a warmer ride and the rain had stopped so I could notice the police cruiser just inside the town limits. What I didn't notice was it was just that, a display cruiser sans officer. My kind of humor.
