Somewhere between Elma, WA., and Astoria, OR., I lost my GPS and Internet service on my “smart” phone. It came as a surprise because, although we were driving on backroads, so to speak, according to the 3G usage map, I should still have had service. Just for kicks, I tried to get Navigator to work on Larry’s "not so smart" phone… and it worked fine! What? Okay… well, I was perplexed about my service, but we were happy to have some GPS help getting us to the campgrounds because we also forgot our Garmin GPS at home!
Astoria is a favorite city of Larry’s because that’s where one of his all time favorite movies was filmed… “Goonies”. We’d been there before though - and we can easily go there again, so we decided not to spend much time in the area this trip. We had reservations to stay at Fort Stevens State Park, about 8 miles west of Astoria on the Pacific Ocean coast and the mouth of the Columbia River, but just for the night and then we were moving on.
We always enjoy going over the 4 mile bridge between Washington and Astoria, OR. We thought about my brother, Bobby, and how he would really hate this bridge!
