I woke up about 4:00 AM, just before we arrived at Ephrata and just as it was starting to get light outside. I wanted to go back to sleep but I also didn't want to miss any of the scenery since it was dark when we'd previously came through this area. I decided I could catch up on sleep another time and to take advantage of the view.
It never ceases to amaze me how different Eastern Washington is from the Western side of the. and yet how incredibly beautiful they both are. We go from high desert, complete with rocky bluffs, canyons, sagebrush and dryness, to the lush green, and even a rain forest, on the western side of the State. We've driven through the Columbia River Gorge area quite often, but I'd never seen it from the train route. It was stunning, of course.
We went to breakfast early... at 5:30am. It's great to be in the dining car because the scenery on both sides of the train can easily be seen. We ate while passing from the desert into the fruit fields of Wenatchee and on through the mountains. We were on the last couple hours of the train trip.
Breakfast: eggs, grits, sausage, biscuit, cranberry juice, coffee. Larry had pancakes, sausage and orange juice.
Breakfast companions: A young man and his little daughter. He was visiting his parents in Spokane from Tokyo, Japan, where he is a teacher.

i wonder if you rode past me :)
No... the train runs north of you through Wenatchee and Leavenworth... but we waved. You were probably asleep though. :)
Vickie your blogs were incredible, I enjoyed every one of them, you did a wonderful job
I felt like I was right there with you.
When you get back I would like to talk with you about doing a blog and looking to buy a small laptop. We are going to Germany, Italy and Austria in September and October, and it would be fun to do a blog also.
See you when you get back. Elfie
Elfie, I'd love to help you with any of this. And I'd LOVE it if you did a blog on your travels. You hadn't mentioned going to Europe this fall. Maybe you just recently decided? Talk to you soon! :)
