We are here. The end of our Eastbound rail trip. What a GREAT one. After traveling thousands of miles since Saturday, June 19th at 5:39 pm., the train pulled into the Boston South Station right on schedule, to the minute! How impressive is that?  We grabbed a taxi and went to Hertz at Logan Airport to pick up a rental car. From there we made our way north to Peabody, MA, just outside of Boston, where we checked into a hotel. What a beautiful room we have - and so much space after our little roomette.  We both feel like we’re still moving, after days on the train! Tomorrow we are planning to go over to Salem, which is nearby, to do some sightseeing before making our way onward towards Maine.  We have 2 1/2 days to do some exploring before we need to be in New Harbor, Maine, to catch the ferry.  We're hoping to see at least the "Old Burying Point Cemetery", the House of Seven Gables, the Witch Trials Memorial in Salem - and learn more about the history of the area and the trials.  It's time to break out the big camera!

What a wonderful trip you have had so far, and without any unexpected delays! Now let the fun begin with touring the East Coast. I've enjoyed your journaling so far and look forward to your sightseeing adventures as well as the wedding festivities. Stay safe and enjoy! Jan

Vicki, you have seem so much and yet have only been travelling 4 days, doesn't it seem longer.I am very impressed by Amtrak and the way they keep to a schedule, and the meals they serve sounded lovely. Have fun exploring Salem and area. Incredibly its been hot and muggy here today for the start of shop hop, drove upto Mt Vernon and then headed south and managed 8 shops. Tomorrow its either North or south, haven't decided yet but I am liking the blocks and fabric so far, then one day we thought we would try for the Pacific and the shops that side. Hope wedding goes really well incase I don't have time to check blog for awhile.

Have a good time at Shop Hop. We drove past a lovely quilt shop last night. It was tucked back in the woods and it looked so quaint. It's too bad it was closed. Oh well.

It DOES seem like we've been gone longer. I sure feel a long way from home when I think about it - and that's very strange.

Nice to hear the weather's improved there. Hope it's still nice when we get back. Maybe summer finally arrived.
