December 1 marks the official launch of the World AIDS campaign to "Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise."
Although statistics are never perfectly accurate, it is estimated that roughly one-third of the adults in Botswana are infected with HIV. The country is in the dubious position of being among the countries with highest HIV prevalence rates.
But there is hope. Today, the people of Botswana are more aware of the issues than ever before. In Letlhakane, they marched, they sang, they spoke. This mining community hosted Botswana's national commemoration of World AIDS Day this year. This is its portrait.
