Where I stayed
That classic tune should have been playing in the dining room at the Hotel Port aux Basques. I'd ridden in rain for most of the trip from Gros Morne NP and was looking forward to doing laundry and warming up. The road south was wet but not as much standing water as you'd think from the volumes we'd received over the past few days, so I made pretty good time.
The dreamy, misty mountain views made the rain tolerable.
Thought about eating before the Hotel, but was pretty sure there was a dining room, so I thought that gassing up all I needed to do at the Irving below the Hotel (just off the TCH). So after unloading and leaving my wash on the line in my room (yes, I carry a little travel clothesline, and it does come in handy), I went down to the dining room.
Just don't be really hungry to start or you'll gnaw on fingers. It is slow and inefficient and indifferent (at least my waitress). Too bad, because the room is fine, the place seems well looked after and it is so well-located.
