Grinzing, Katacombs, Heeresgeschichtliches,Rathaus

Today was fine but still cold.. guess that's Wien for you!! Caught the tram (strassenbahn) to Grinzing - a wine village close to where we're staying at Oberdoebling. Then we ran after and caught a bus to the top of the mountain for sensational views of Vienna .. a bit of slushy snow about but not at all romantic. Then we bussed to Heiligenstadt station and caught the u-bahn to Stephansdom and went to the catacombs under the cathedral..I see dead people!! Amazing. This included victims of the Black Plague of the 14th century as well as Rudolf IV a Hapsburg ruler who died at 25... guess than comes from being politically married at 14 to an 11 year old..he was old before his time.Mc Donalds for lunch!!
Then we split up and we went to the Military Museum/ Arsenal where the highlight was seeing the car that Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand was shot in...starting WW1. Fantastic. They've even got his bloodstained uniform in the collection. Then we caught the tram to the Rathaus Christmas markets.. this was targeted towards kids and was good fun.
