After a delicious packed lunch we headed back toward Flores and went to a nursing home for men. A lot of these men have pretty much been left there by their families and were so happy to have visitors! It broke my heart! It was a whole different type of orphan! For our time there, we played a couple of our slower songs, but the main thing they wanted was attention! They were starved for it!
One of the men there truly impacted me. he was over 100 years old and could speak nine languages. He is the only person in Guatemala that is a native speaker of one of the Mayan-derived tribal languages. He also spoke English, and Russian, to name a few. He was a little slow-paced when he walked, but his mind was sharp as a tack! He had me rolling with jokes and wise cracks!
All I can say after that experience is... WOW!
