Another internal flight, another 2h delay...

We got in to Alice Springs last night and check into our hotel. It was nice to get all the red dirt off in the shower from all of the places it accumulated over the past three days which was pretty much everywhere. For supper we met up with some of the folks we met on the tour at a local bar. It was kind of too bad as we were finally getting to know one another when we had do say our goodbyes. We had lots of fun regardless. We finally found some good beer but it looks like it might have been from a local brewery so my hopes aren't high that we will find it again.

This morning we took advantage of having laundry machines available at out hotel do do some laundry before the next leg of our journey. I was running out of clean basements anyways so I am now ready to rock for the next while. After laundry and check out we walked to the town centre which was about 30 minutes from our hotel. The walk goes along the Todd river which runs through the middle of town. By river I mean a dry river bed that only sees water when there is substantial rain. The locals have boat races in the river bed every year. For lunch we found some good Mexican food at one of the restaurant before wandering through the local art shops that had a lot of aboriginal art. A lot was very nice but we didn't really want to drag it around with us for the next few weeks so we didn't buy anything. On the way back to the hotel we walked through the botanical gardens which had a lot of the local desert plants. We also climbed up one of the hills that had a great view of the town. We crossed paths with a kangaroo in the gardens too so Gina got some pictures not in a zoo. The other ones we had seen were along the side of the road or on our plates so we did have any pictures. We caught our transfer to the airport only to learn that out flight to Cairns has been delayed by 2h. We have not had good luck with these domestic flights. At least at this airport you can sit outside on a patio once you get through security so here I am drinking beer, watching the sunset waiting for our plane.

We have an early morning tomorrow as we get picked up for our 3 day snorkel/dive adventure on the Great Barrier Reef. There is an excellent chance I won't have internet access while on the boat but I will keep writing and publish everything once we are back in Cairns. Our plane has landed finally...
