Greetings all,

This may be my only entry for a while as we were told this morning that internet availability is pretty much nil once we leave the capital.

Gina and I made it safely, with our bags, late last night.  Apparently the president was on our flight so it was delayed when we got on in Paris so that they could sneak him on the plane.  We saw the red carpet on the tarmac when we landed and though it was for us...apparently not as it was gone by the time we got off the plane.  After clearing customs we unexpectedly met our tour leader at the airport who was there to pick up a few of the others who were on the same flight as us.  Gina and I our the youngest ones on the tour by probably a quarter century but the group seems pretty good.

Our hotel is very nice, but apperently things get pretty rough from here on in.  This morning we headed to the bank to get a huge stack of  Malagasy Ariary bills as 10000 Ariary is about equal to 7 dollars.  We had a brief walking tour of the city, there isn't much to see but lots of street vendors who are constantly wanting you to buy stuff.  For lunch we went to a small restaurant in a park near our hotel.  Gina had pizza and I unknowingly had beef tounge and rice.  Sometimes you win when you close your eyes and pick something on the menu, sometimes you don't.  It wasn't that bad acutally, it tasted like stewed beef.

This afternoon we went to the zoo and got to see a large variety of the native wildlife.  Gina's favourite were the baby lemurs.  Lemurs are pretty crazy, they chase each other around and are pretty active in their little cages.  Tonight we eat at the hotel as we leave Tana early tomorrow morning.

Glad you made it
Good to hear you got there safely. I see you travel with high company!!
Tongue - hmmm I've heard it is good if done properly. Are you sure it was beef? Hope things go well. Too bad there are no younger ones with you but I'm sure you will still have fun.
Take care and Gina - I don't think they will let you bring a lemur back!!

Glad to hear that you made Madagascar. Now the adventure begins. Gina, in order to bring home a Lemur you can do one of two things: -claim you are blind and need a seeing eye Lemur, or -claim you are mentally unstable and need the Lemur as companionship and to keep you calm while on the airplane! Have fun!
