Only 5kms away from the polish border in the morning, and having had a pretty flat road up until then, I was thinking to myself "it seems like the main road is following a valley so it should be flat all the way through". Well, I soon found out I was wrong. It started 1km from the Polish border. A steep wall to the other side. Happy to finally be in Poland, I thought, maybe I only had to go up for the border, no I'm gonna go down the mountain on a horse. Still not. After going down, a good 5-6 more steep climbs were awaiting me... I managed to do them all without walking though, so I patted myself on the back and had a hemp seed energy bar. Goddamn Tatras.

it felt good to be in Poland though, as I had been here 4 times before, I felt right at home, and once in Żywiec decided to have polish food and beer, as a reward to all this climbing. Beer is good but it tends to increase muscle pain, and I soon realized the climbing was not over, as the road going around jezioro żywieckie (the lake north of Żywiec), was also a roller coaster. A good half dozen climbs later, and I'm on a straight line to Oświęcim, which you might better know under the name Auschwitz (the German name). After checking in my pension, I headed to another polish restaurant, to finally enjoy some pierogi, after another 80 something kilometers. 5 days left!

Tomorrow I shall of course visit both museum and Auschwitz Birkenau camp.
