Today I celebrated my... 29th (gulp) birthday! I was working all day at the nursery but I got made lots of crowns and necklaces by the kids in my class which is always very lovely! After work, me and Chris went out for a few beers in the city centre but headed back to our amazing local, 'Green Ant Cantina' for some Mexican food and amazing home brewed beers! I've been having their ginger beer which rivals Crabbies and Chris has been having their honey wheat beer. We stayed here for the night as there were some DJ's and some free style rap jam. It was pretty quiet but we still had fun drinking the lovely beer and listening to the rapper dudes.

As a special treat for my Birthday, Chris planned a surprise weekend away to Port Douglas which is a beautiful little seaside town about an hour north of Cairns. So the next day we set of for Port Douglas. We stayed at a beautiful boutique hotel in a gorgeous room complete with king size bed, a proper coffee machine, apple TV and ipad! After spending the past 6 months in hostels, this was a real treat! The treats didn't stop there- Chris had booked us into a spa where we were both having a salt scrub treatment which was so nice! Later on that night we headed out for a meal and beers. We went to one bar called The Iron Bar where they were hosting a Cane Toad racing event. It was really funny! Chris decided to get up and race one of the toads (which was called Camel Toad) and won! He won a bottle of cava and free admission into a crocodile wildlife park which was pretty cool! Another special treat for winning the Cane Toad racing was that Chris had to get up first to sing on karaoke where he managed to successfully murder a Beatles classic ;-)

Next day in Port Douglas was the market so we spent some time browsing there. It was a pretty cool market with loads of markets selling local fare. There was lots of opal and I decided to buy an opal ring for my birthday present which is very lovely! We went out for a breakfast of pancakes with fresh fruit and syrup before heading back out on the road heading back to Cairns. We stopped off at a all the beaches along the way and stayed at Trinity beach for a bit of a sunbathe and a swim. There are deadly jellyfish around at this time of year so we had to swim in the stinger net. It was a gorgeous day and it was lovely to spend time chiling on the beach!

Chris made sure I had a perfect birthday and even though I was away from my friends and family, my best mate made sure I had a great time. Thanks Chris, love you!
