Where were we?? Oh yes, outside the city limits of Malibu and heading to LA.

We woke up in a cold tent so rather than get ready and get colder, Simon bundled me into the car wrapped in my sleeping bag and we drove towards LA at around 7am (through Malibu with me keeping a look out for Jennifer Aniston, just in case she was up and around)! We were still in our layers of sleeping gear. Gross.

Simon wasn't that fussed about LA and I'd been before, so neither was I. Therefore we had no plan other than to have breakfast.

The first familiar sign we came to was Santa Monica so we got off the freeway there and headed for the Pier.

All through this trip songs have popped into my head that are written about the places that we've been (it's been driving me mad). This time I found myself singing the Cheryl Crow song about Santa Monica Boulevard. So after a lovely walk along the beach to see all the joggers and skaters etc, we headed towards Santa Monica Boulevard.

Before we got there we found a great place to have breakfast (with, surprise surprise, rubbish coffee) and plonked ourselves there for a while with me constantly saying to Simon "do you think that we look like we may've been out for a jog". The answer was clearly "no, we look like we slept in the clothes that we're in" but he kept on saying "yes" to make me feel better.

After breakfast we went for a walk along the boulevard (which at this end of LA mostly consists of shops). It was Black Friday in the US (still not sure why it's called that) so people were out in droves so we soon got bored of that and went back to the car to take a driving tour of LA.

We drove off towards Venice (muscle) Beach, which neither one of us liked so we stayed in the car and picked up Santa Monica Boulevard again which took us all the way into Beverley Hills.

That was fun as I could point out to Simon scenes from Pretty Woman on Wilshire Boulevard and Rodeo Drive and then we took a short drive through some of the fancy houses before headed for the Hollywood Sign.

After taking a picture of that we checked the map and aimed ourselves towards Las Vegas as that was our planned next stop (and Simon didn't like LA so we decided to move on).

About two hours later (no kidding, the place is huge) we left LA and found ourselves in a huge traffic jam which looked like it may stretch all the way through the desert to Vegas. Seems like everyone goes to Vegas on Thanksgiving weekend. Joy of joys.

We sat in the traffic jam for about half an hour after which Simon was bored our of his mind so, as he has a pathological hate of traffic jams and will drive in the wrong direction to avoid them, off we went into the unknown...
