Today, our friends left to continue their journey and the goal for the day was to do laundry and go back to Mawan Beach. The laundry issue is quite a drag because you need to figure out where to hang it outside, make sure it's not gonna rain, etc.. As I went to ask about a place to hang stuff Made offered me their laundry service which included machine drier so we took it and saved ourselves pain and misery.

We were so excited that we didn’t have to do it so we got ready to go back to Ashtari (the vegetarian café) and then the beach. After a 5 minute drive, we found out that the café was closed on Monday (we had no idea it was Monday by the way, the day of the week is not important anymore, LOL). So we drove to another recommended place to eat and probably became their first customers of the day (the place was deserted)and probably last. Right after sitting down we were surrounded by kids trying to sell us bracelets after saying no thank you they just sat there waiting so I decided to chat with them. We talked about school and everything…they were so cute. It was interesting because once they figured out that we were not interested in their bracelets they became these totally different people (in a good way). There was one cute little girl in particular that spoke very good English and was like the leader of the group. We got to take a picture with them and when we showed them the picture she pointed to herself and said "ugly" and pointed to me and said “pretty”. It was so hard to hear her say that and how twisted the world can be to think that just because I am lighter skin I am pretty…

When we were leaving, we told them we would buy some bracelet from each next time (though we thought we would not see them again). Then we drove to the beach and made a mistake to sit close to the locals so within 10 minutes we had this guy sitting next to us trying to get us to buy food from his wife. Its so sad that they are so desperate but it’s also frustrating because you cannot enjoy your time at the beach because they are constantly trying to sell you things. It’s hard when they depend on tourists to survive but they make it so uncomfortable that we end up not buying anything, ever. What made it worse was it was the low season when we were there so there were VERY few tourists so when we were spotted people would literally run over to us from far away.

Fortunately, it started to look stormy and we had a good reason to bail out. We made it just in time at our place and missed the huge rain storm that came in.

Later we went out to dinner and found the same kids hanging out at the other end of town. At this point we were pretty suckered in to buy something from them. So as we sat down I called them quietly over to buy something and two other kids noticed and came too (one we had bought from the previous night, so we told him no more). We bought 3 bracelets and were able to finish our meal in peace.

As we were about to leave, we were watching the people drive by and noticed some with red on their face and thought oh no, an accident. Then we swore we would not rent bikes again. But a few seconds later we saw another one and figure out it was paint. The local we met at the restaurant told us it was the boys who had just graduated from high school who celebrate by painting their bodies and uniforms and driving around to celebrate.

On the way back, Travis saw the locals playing volleyball again and this time he got to join in. They thought it was so cool that he was out there and became an attraction for the kids nearby. They played for like 20 minutes and left pretty suddenly (we figured they were hurrying home to pray, this is something we have gotten used to since we hear the loudspeaker from the mosque prayers all day long). Travis found out that they play every day at 4:30 so he was super stoked to play tomorrow too.
