After a couple of really hot days in Bangkok we headed off to the train station to get the overnight sleeper train to Surat Thani followed by the bus to Krabi. The train was great fun with the jolly hostess trying to ply us with as much beer and food as possible. The seats folded down into beds and I (Carl) had a good sleep-probably down to all the beer but Vikki didnt get much due to the silly choice of not drinking at all and the train stopping and starting all the way!
When we arrived in Krabi we got the boat over to Ko Jum. When we got close we were met by a longtail boat from the huts we were staying at. We jumped aboard and after a short journey arrived at the Luboa Huts. We were met by our hosts Ann and Nut! The place was gorgeous (as you can see from the pictures) and proved to be our own little paradise for the next few days. The island didnt have any electricity and only a handful of people were around on the beach. As there was nothing to do but eat, swim and sleep we really relaxed for the time we were there.
Sleeping at nighttime proved to be difficult though as the hut was in the forest and completely exposed to who/whatever wanted to visit us. It was amazing though as we were woken at around 6am each morning by a dawn chorus of monkeys passing through the trees above! (Sorry tried to get pictures but they moved too fast). Rather less welcome guests though included cockroaches, a large lizard the size of a cat and the piece de resistance was a large tan coloured rat!
After 3 nights here we finally moved on by getting the boat to a more upbeat island called Ko Lanta with all the creature comforts (rather than that of the animal kind).
We're going to stay here for a few days I think to work on the tan and sink a few beers- theres also a bar called the shroom bar but think we'll be staying away fom there!
