leon is currently competing for the title in the national championship series of baseball - leon vs granada. saturday was game 2 of a 7 game series, hosted in leon. friday night before the game lots of us from the hostel spent a few hours at a club called Via Via. it's the most popular bar in town for the locals because they host a live band on friday nights. the band was excellent (nicaraguense) and when they sang this song about leon the flippin' crowd went crazy. it's a famous song that's been around for many years, but a popular current rock band (in video clip) has released a new recording. the crowd (mostly men) was intense...and that's really an understatement. watch the video at least until you see the baseball stadium scene. mom just put your arrow on the orange link and it will take you directly to the video, when finished just close that window "x" and you will return to this page.

music is a huge part of the culture here (i suppose that can be said for all of latin america) and it was a great night to people-watch. without exception, everyone can dance...and i mean DANCE. this night peaked my curiosity and i ended up spending most of yesterday on youtube searching current and famous musicians of nica. it is said that nicaragua is the most cultured country of central america...producing famous poets, painters, and musicians. the country is small, but mighty...having to continuously battle for freedom. every song i encountered carried this message. the staff here also had several recommendations of songs and popular bands. if you are a music lover than i think you'll enjoy a quick glimpse into this lifestyle. so i thought the best thing for me to do is post a few links of some of the ones i liked.

and of course leon won the game yesterday...leeeooonnnnn leon leon (another song sang that night)...and they are up 2 - 0 in the series. today's game is on at 11am live from granada. GO LIONS!
