Happy Golden Week!

I remember this time last year I went home. I can't believe it has been a year since I started working here in Nagoya. We are on Golden Week holidays in Japan at the moment. Golden week is a week of public holidays including Children's Day, Greenery Day, Constitution Day and Emperor's Birthday. The kids had a whole week off, but teachers had to work 2 days. It was nice though to have time off.
I went to Hamamatsu where there was a kite fighting festival. The festival is on in May and runs for 3 days. There were 10-20 groups of people flying their kite, and lots of community spirit. It was also a great opportunity to do some people watching. The hairstyles, and footwear were quite interesting! Hamamatsu also has the 2nd largest sand dunes in Japan. They weren't very exciting though because they had barricades and it didn't look at all like sand dunes. At night there was a float festival. Families young and old pulled the lit up floats along the road. There were children on the floats playing flutes and drums. We sat next to the drain, and it was super smelly, but the view was too good that we put up with the stinkiness.

Back to school tomorrow, thank goodness it's going to be a 2 day week! This is going to be the longest and busiest term including swimming, school events, late nights, report cards and much more... :o( Need to stuff myself with vitamins...

Can't wait to go back tomorrow to see the kids and fill up their little love tanks :o)

Ciao Ciao

Luv Vicki
