After our bran flakes breakfast - that's right, no bacon sandwiches - we started on our short drive to Port Douglas.
The drive itself took us straight up the coast and there were some magnificent views of the beaches and the ocean.
When we arrived in Port Douglas we took a walk round town first. The place is like a little toytown theme park. It somehow doesn't seem real. It's a nice place though and the people seem friendly enough. There is also a fantastic beach here called Four Mile Beach. Guess how long it is. We drove up to Flagstaff Hill lookout point which gave us great views down the whole beach.
We then found an internet café, with decent PC's - first time in four days. Gave us a chance to upload some photos and check our ever-dwindling bank accounts!

We then went and checked in at our campsite - Glengarry Park. We haven't been booking these sites, we have just been turning up. It seems like it isn't that busy until mid-December - great news for us as this means prices are cheaper as well!! Glengarry is a nice park with a good pool and decent facilities.

After lunch we took a drive up to Mossman Gorge. We had a short walk through the rainforest before arriving at the gorge. The water was freezing, but really refreshing on a hot day. I jumped straight in, but Lorna took about 15 minutes to edge her way fully into the river!
There is quite a good current here and when you get the right place, it shoots you down river through the rocks. Although you don't usually miss the rocks and sometimes you are grabbing hold of them for dear life!! There are big signs everywhere saying that drownings regularly occur here - we read them AFTER we had been in the gorge! Dumbasses!
The funniest moments were when we were trying to swim back upstream. The current is so strong that even when you swim as fast as you can, you just stay in the same spot! It's like a swimming treadmill! We both persevered though, mainly because we couldn't be bothered to walk, and eventually we both made it back upstream.

After our gorge adventure, we went back to the campsite and jumped into the site pool. There was only us two in it, so we played around like a couple of 5 year olds!! When we finally dragged ourselves out of the pool, as it was getting dark, we went back to our campervan.

It was here that I found a write up, in a local guidebook, about Mossman Gorge and how it is home to different fish and......crocodiles!! We saw the fish, but luckily didn't meet up with any croc's!!

We then had dinner, put the iPod on full blast and had a few beers & wine.
