Hi All
Apologies to you all for the lack of blogs in recent weeks - my only excuse is that i've been having too much fun!
So where did we get up to? Brisbane I think. Brisbane was ok, weather was still a bit temperamental so we spent a couple of days sorting ourselves out - doing the washing, cleaning the car etc before heading into town for a bit of a wander! We then headed out into the bush to Brisbane forest park which is part of the D'Anguilar Ranges. We spent the night in a bush camp at a place called Neuram Creek. It was great - we were the only people camping. It was so peaceful and we saw various wildlife - it really was camping at it's best!
Heading back the day after, we stopped off at various points along the way before visiting the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to see the koalas and kangeroos (at this point Tash hadn't really seen any) and then we took off and headed to Surfers Paradise.
Luckily for us once we arrived in Surfers and everywhere we've been ever since, the weather has been amazingly hot! Tantastic!!!!!!!!
We spent a couple of days in Surfers on the beach and exploring the town - it really was a typical holiday resort town. We even had a night out there which made a refreshing change from drinking the goon as it's called over here - basically very cheap wine $10 for about 4 litres! It's all the rage with skint backpackers!!!!
Anyway moving on, next was Coolangatta - I absolutely loved the place. Those of you who know my obsession with Flamborough Head will appreciate it when I say this town for me is the Aussie version!
Coolangatta is a small town with the most beautiful beaches and is the border town between Queensland and New South Wales. We arrived on the Monday with the intention of only staying one night. However 9 days later we were still there and had to force ourselves to get back on the road.
I think the major factor in Team Volvo staying so long was that we met some great people on our campsite. Jo and Johnny from Drogheda in Ireland and John and Claire from Scotland. We spent many a night in the camp kitchen drinking wine (ok, goon) and putting the world to rights. One night in particular was funny - we made our own version of Twister - I have some very funny photos of that.
Also there was a pro surf competition taking place. Kelly Slater was there - you know the guy who's helping Cameron Diaz get over her heartbreak!! Well needless to say I saw him but made sure I kept out of his line of vision - I mean I didn't want to put him off the job in hand with my obvious good looks!!!! Yes you could say us girls were in our element eyeing up the talent (surf skills obviously)!!!!
We also said our (temporary) goodbyes to Gigsy, he's gone to Sydney for Paddy's day!!! Team Volvo is now down to two!
Anyway that's about it for now.
