Each dance performed by the monks was approximately 45 minutes long and in between local women gave a 30 minute circular style dance. The monks' dances included brilliant costumes and intricately painted wooden masks of pigs, bears, and other animals or Buddhist characters. There were also two side entertainers in masks, joking with the audience and waving their phallic shaped wooden props throughout the performance.
A few local children had hopped up on the wooden shelter in which the head monks were playing the drums for the dances. They were quickly scolded and shooed away by another monk overseeing the ceremony. It was a very entertaining day.
