Just a short entry to document also that life is not all peachy on study abroad...there have been a lot of difficult times, and in fact I'd say that most of my time so far here has really been not that happy so far, surprisingly. I am counting on it getting a lot better, and growing from all of this, but it is a lot more challenging than I expected, especially considering that it's not like I haven't traveled much before anyway.

I was feeling pretty good about everything today, though, until my afternoon excursions through the city. After a really long museum visit for class and then a really long walk, my friend and I went to dinner tonight in centro. Once again, we ran into the dilemma of HOW do we get seated AND acquire food AND somewhere in the process pay. Well, we went inside and I asked for a table for two... which apparently was the wrong thing to do. I got laughed at, and in telling the story now, I can't remember the details, I can't remember why I felt so upset and wanted to cry, but I did.

It's really disempowering, every time you try to do something so simple as EAT, you get shot down. So you swallow any pittance of pride that you had, and ask for help ... and THAT is the wrong thing to do too, apparently.

I'll figure it all out I hope some time soon, and I'll ask about what I did wrong, tomorrow in class... but yeah. I seem to be making "significant" mistakes every step I take here in Italy, and all the Italians seem so genuinely shocked to see us do the wrong thing. It seems that they believe so deeply that we must know what to do, that they will not help us, out of some belief that we know what's going on. We don't!

But we will... ce la farņ.

Ma per adesso, buona notte!
