Sailaway from Sydney Harbour – Embarkation Day

Sadness shrouded our celebratory sailaway from Circular Quay.   AnnaLisa, Murray, and Otto Nash had been such fabulous hosts for us for a number of weeks and farewells don’t come easily.  I developed a strong bond with little Otto during the four weeks I spent in Sydney with him.  Peter arrived about two weeks after I arrived in Sydney, but took on some good time with Otto, especially daily walks with Otto in his pram down to the oceanfront.  We had fabulous outings together, including a three day trip to Burrill Lake on the southeast coast of Australia, the Blue Mountains and Three Sisters, and day outings to Sydney and Darling Harbours, Bondi and Manly Beaches.  We made two trips to Tarango Zoo, certainly the best zoo we’ve ever visited.  We cooked and baked and played with trains and trucks and read books and had nightly “highs and lows” and prayers together as a family.  Our hearts now ache being apart again.  We savor the memories and the goodness of our relationships together, and give thanks.  We had a wonderful month in Australia before this cruise.

Anna, Murray and Otto brought us to the Overseas Passenger Terminal right in Sydney Harbour, where we checked in and then disembarked again to spend another hour and a half with the Nash family.  We walked around in the area called The Rocks, and ended up at a German Tavern where we have been previously.  A little German band entertained the clients at the restaurant, and Otto danced and we laughed with delight.   Needless to say, the parting was difficult and tearful, but we got through it and spent the evening roaming around on the ship, exploring and meeting people.  We went to a show in the huge theater put on by a team of singers and dancers that are with us on this excursion.  We sat out on our balcony in the night breeze and each had a glass of wine before retiring.

Note:  we didn’t book a room with a balconey, but three days before our cruise we received notice that we had been upgraded to a room with a view!  We were pretty happy about that, especially for such a long cruise ahead of 23 days.

Otto is such a beautiful little boy. My heart goes out to you on your departure, but I know that your cruise ahead will be amazing.
