Its a spectacular scenery around these places, passing from prairies to high mountains with snow, to forrest, and prairies again. We can only imagine how tough it must have been to travel here in the Wild West times.

Anyway, we finished our 400 miles trip to get to Yellowstone and drove directly to the first camping we could find that was open and has some sort of restroom. The problem we are finding in many of these places is that campgrounds have either shut down or reduced their capacity for winter...so out of the 10 or so normal campgrounds there are only about 4 open. Of course we didnt read which one until we got to it! Typical.

Given Yellowstone is a huge park, it can actually take over 30 miles from one campground to another and all in a loop. So we managed to do a huge roundabout in order to get to a camping which was close to the entrance where we went into in the first place!! By the time we arrived there, it was getting dark and it was certainly getting very cold.

We were lucky on the way to see a few animals (a coyote, a few huge bison and 1 black bear).

We just had time to build our tent and light a fire. Soon we would find out why they close the campgrounds closer to winter....its freezing around here! By 8pm we were in our tents and desperately trying to keep warm with 2 sleeping bags, jumpers and all the cloths we could find. It was going to be a long, long night!
