It was a splendid night of rest in the cabin at the Mohican State Park. Those little wooden huts with the electric fire are just relaxing. Sadly the weather hasn't improved and it continues to rain hour after hour so the best we could do was pop into the local library to check some internet, update our webpage and check on the local people that wanted to meet with us later.

We arranged to meet at 6pm at Belleville where there was a fair going on. However, as we arrived at 2pm and due to rain there was nothing to do we decided to continue our trip towards Indiana in order to gain some ground. This decision was a lucky one as the whole area that we were going to drive through was starting to flood and had we waited another 24 hours we would have been stuck for another couple of days or more.

Unluckily we tried to contact the people we were going to meet at Belleville on their mobile but US public phones have posed a bit of a challenge for us since we arrive. Either we are doing something wrong on them, or the phone we had was incorrect. In any case we couldn't warn the couple that were going to show us round...we hope they didn't wait in the rain for too long after the hospitality they showed to us. They must think we are bloody rude!

Anyway, we stopped at a local grocery store to buy some food and drink for the trip and a couple of things came to our attention:
- all the shops are selling "octoberfest beer" which seems to be a hit with the locals.
- in most places you find old age people working packing bags or moving stuff around the supermarkets, and we are talking about people who do have difficulties to walk. Its quite shocking for our little European minds with our social security and our pension plans and retirement dreams. Obviously its a different way of living and surviving in USA.

Our trip took us along 5 to 6 hours of heavy raining until we decided to stop and rest of the night at Fort Wayne (Indiana). Not much of a nice place, especially with the strippers club next to the hotel and the people walking around the hotel. Sufficient to say this ain't no Ohio Amish country any more!

What we did find next to the hotel was a Barnes & Noble book store and finally managed to buy some good books to read, including a couple of Bill Bryson ones recommended by Veronika's friend Anne.
