Some exercise was required today! Lately we have been eating too much and not walking around sufficiently.

A kayak challenge was decided upon...so both David and Marcos went down to the lake and rented a couple of kayaks (Quetzal 30 per hour = 3 euro) for an hour. Veronika decided on some olympic shopping in town!

The day itself was wonderfully nice when we started off, and after kitting ourselves with the full safety kit we dashed into the then flat lake. David had some initial problems "driving" the kayak (see video called "Olympic Kayaking Team") when he nearly capsized and ended up stuck in the beach.

However, given his engineering speciality and his quick learning skills he quickly learnt the paddling tricks and was soon close to olympic style and level.

It was all a nice paddling story down the lake, until 20 minutes into the adventure a storm moved into the lake and we had to fight a strong wind and every increasing waves. The lightling and thunder at the other side of the lake wasn´t relaxing either!

So what took 20 minutes to paddle softly, was 40 minutes of hard paddling back to base. Enough for one day!

In order to celebrate the successful sporting event, Vero and Blubi David gave a spontaneous xylophon concert at the hotel reception with great acceptance by the locals (see video "Guatemalan Music Team"). Davids handling of the higher tones is impressive..a natural! Make sure you have high volume to listen to the classic song.

Tomorrow we will return back to La Antigua Guatemala where we will decide if we do some olympic volcano climbing or not. In any case, the last couple of days will be there...sufficient of Atitlan for us.
