Ah! Another night of total silence and rest...how refreshing.

Sadly we had to wake up early (although motivated) as we had arranged to go horse riding for a few hours around Gracias a Dios.

We booked the horse riding at Dutch owned hotel Guancascos, where better breakfasts are also served. It costs $20 per person (400 Lempiras) for about 4 hours of horse riding. However, much to our surprise, when we arrived there was only 2 horses, so either we were going without a guide or we were meeting him elsewhere.

None of the above. The owner of the hotel had tried to contact the normal horse guide but he was no where to be found. So being an entrepeneur as she is, she brought here own two horses and told the receptionist and her 12 year old son to walk along with us for 4 hours.

Initially we thought they would not be able to keep up, but we soon found out that it was the horses "Elvis" and "Pancho" that struggled to keep up with the pace - not because the receptionist walked any fast, but because these horses had totally forgotten what their mission in life is, and "gallop" was a memory past.

In any case the 4 hour ride was very relaxing (once we gave up on trying to get any trotting or galloping), and the Honduras country side here is delightful. The "real Honduras" as every town around here tries to sell to tourists.

The rest of the day we will relax and siesta around in the hotel with cable TV. Tomorrow we will have another early rise and hopefully get to the Copan Ruins where we will have our first exposure to the Mayan experience.

Cheerio!
