We had heard that Cahuita National Park was nice but nothing prepared us for the 8km path along the jungle (next to the Caribbean sea)...it just can't be described. The amount of wildlife and fauna we saw was beyond anything we had expected.

We can only point at the pictures to explain what we saw and detail a few of the creatures we saw:
- all sorts of large crabs
- northern racoon
- white nosed coati
- mopopo leaf cutting ants
- white throated capuchino
- blue morpho butterfly
- black vulture
- nero glasswing
- the postman
- green iguana
- thousands of lizards
- two and three toed sloths
- agouti (guatusa)
- greater fishing bat

We checked all these on the list of wildlife we carry around with us for Costa Rica.

We were actually quite lucky to see 5 sloths in total as not only are they difficult to spot but they tend to be further away from the path. As expected they were slow and did not intend to be disturbed by our photographs (they kept falling asleep even though we were only a metre away).

At the end of the trip we lived a true Caribbean character (see picture "me estaaaas estresando") who was lying down motionless next to a palm tree on the beach. Suddenly he moved his left arm (very, very slowly) pointing upwards and shouted "Yo! Aaaanimal". He spotted a coatie lying as lazily as himself on the tree and was just telling the tourists...then he fell asleep again.

This took us well over 5 hours walking, so the rest of the day was relaxing in the pool and enjoying the calm. Sadly Steffi managed to break his bed at 2pm (the wooden boards under the bed broke) and this made Vero believe that a terrible criminal was breaking into the room to kill us all...her shout was something out of a terror movie! So sleeping was not at its best that night.

Poor Vero also got stung by a mosquito or similar in the eye lid and her eye became a huge inflated ball....(which would disappear 24 hours later) but she looked as if she just came out of a boxing fight!
