Last day in Vilcabamba before we move on. We have no choice as there is a train trip that we want to take in Riobamba which leaves on Wednesdays, Saturday or Sundays, and given the 1st and 2nd of May will be bank holidays in Ecuador all transport will come to a halt.

We just came back from a huge lunch at the most expensive restaurant in town...and it cost us $US 10! Three times as much as the local restaurants but it still beats European prices by a mile!

A couple of pictures more...of dogs of course (our daily entertainment). One with the puppies having a fight, they seem to do this 23 hours a day, another with Marcos fighting the puppy to keep his huge biscuit!

Weather is still the same, hot sun with rain showers around lunch time, and back to heat.

The big event of the day was exchanging our books for new ones at a book exchange an US expat has set up. He has quite a few books there and loves to chat when people arrive. He is married to a local and moved here 2 years ago (after travelling for 15 on holidays). His wife has just set up an "italian" restaurant next to the book exchange which opens tomorrow.

The town of Vilcabamba is buzzing today. It looks like people living in Loja or further away have weekend homes and rush down on Fridays. The rest of the week it was quite empty, although there has been a constant client at a bar in the main square - a US expat that has obvious signs of feeding on local beer exclusively. He is sitting outside  the supermarket bar everyday from 10 am onwards.

Cheerio for now.
