Getting up at 6am to catch the local minibus from Villarrica to Puerto Varas was testing...the Jacky Chan movie at 9am was nearly torture, but we concentrated with our newly learnt Zen methodology and slept most of the way.

Anyway, 4 hours later we managed to arrive at Puerto Varas which apart from being a lovely German looking town, is a good base for the excursions we are going to be doing the next few days, rivers, lakes, volcanos and lots of trekking.

I (Marcos) am getting pretty good at spotting cheap "hospedajes" (family owned homes or similar), and today I beat my own record by finding a room in what seemed to be a house about to be pulled down after a long eviction... However, once inside it is clean and comfortable. Strangely it is a "Casa de Profesores" (i.e. where teachers can stay on holiday or during work). Not bad for 7 euros a day. Every cent counts in this long trip...

We will enjoy the evening with a local band playing in the concert hall of Puerto Varas. Can hardly wait (with camera in hand).

Sadly we wont be here for the Puerto Varas Bierfest 2008 which is on the 19 and 20th of January...
