New Year, New Driving!
We started off early on the 1st of January, not feeling as fit as we should - we must confess - after finishing all the beer, wine and champagne the previous night...
We selected a special route which looked like a road across the mountain but that turned out to be quite a drivers nightmare. Luckily the vehicle was equiped with 4x4 traction which allowed us to survive some tricky hills. (Veronika´s nail marks are still engraved on the plastic handle on her side - especially when we started sliding backwards at 35 degrees on a hill to high, and when I decided to joke about the breaks not working...)
Anyway - the brown trousers were well worth it and the 180 kms at 10km hour and first gear translated into an incredible ride over the mountains with no one to be seen and fantastic views.
We made the road to Ovalle and celebrated with some delicious seafood at the fishing town of "Los Vilos".
In the pictures you can see the "Empanada de Marisco" and "Paila Marina"(with a total of 14 different sea products in one dish...all the proteins necessary for a month!
We have also attached a couple of video clips (we are getting better are putting these in with the limited resources in cybercafes - slow most times). The horse riding ones are from the 30th at Elqui Valley...horse riding will be one of the main activities to be repeated all along our trip.
