Pariangan is a small Minangkabau village located in Tanah Datar Regency. The village is located in the lower slopes of Mount Merapi, an active volcano. Despite it's size, the village is of great cultural and historical significance to the Minangkabau people.

Local legend states that Pariangan is the oldest of all Minangkabau villages. A large ancient tomb in the village is said to belong to Tantejo Gurhano, an early ruler in this area. Today, the entire area is preserved as a cultural monument under national legislation.

Unfortunately by the time we had arrived here from the previous location, it was already past five in the evening and this museum was already closed and I could not go in and take more photographs. Even this only photograph which I could take had to be taken through the grill gates at the main entrance and that's why it is slightly sidelined.

Nevertheless, I felt that this place deserves a separate entry to highlight the importance of this village to the locals. From here, we are heading directly to the city of Padang, the capitol of West Sumatran Province.

Nice writing as always bro! Sadly that it was already closed by the time you had arrived else we could have viewed more pictures.

Hi Jay, thank you bro. Yes, it was partially my mistake too. I took up too much time at an earlier place. Guess, perhaps that's how it must have got to be that day. :)
