Where I stayed
From the airport, immediately bought a coupon for the airport limo heading to KOMTAR building. To my suprise, it was RM 44.70 , thats very expensive for Penang. In fact, airport limo in KLIA does not even cost that much for that distance. Crazy prices.
Once I arrived at Komtar, was so sad to see this building in quite a dilapidated state. This building was once the tallest in South East Asia, built somewhere in the mid 1980's and was the pride of Penang then. Today, most of the outlets are closed, mostly with beggars and drug addicts loitering the premises and a handful of money changers operating there. Of course, the tower block still had the state administrative offices. Thats where my meeting was anyway.
Just took a few photographs of the streets around Komtar, but I was glad to see so many new malls which have sprung in recent years around Komtar. Its good and bad, god because it still keeps some commerce happening in that area....bad because it has further tarnished the image of what Komtar was in the yesteryears.
Somehow, with great difficulty, I managed to find the right entrance to the office tower and headed for the meeting. Wow, with just a short lunch break later which we had at George Town White Coffee around Komtar Walk, (a new tourist attraction created by state government in recent years), the meeting lasted the entire day. Well, it was not with just one party but with numerous departments starting from IT, then HR , then Finance and finally with the management board. By the time the meetings were over, it was almost night.
I was quite late for my flight back already, as we had more things to discuss, had to postpone the flight to the next day instead. Even the nights were filled with work that I could not go anywhere for leisure.
The next day, same scenario. Morning till night was meetings. Finally the meetings came to an end but it was with a very good result, much better than what I had expected. So, the sacrifice was worth it. Hehehe At night, we called a cab from the hotel and got overselves to the airport. Had a quick dinner at Mc Donalds and straight off for the flight back home.
A very tiring trip, its been ages since I did a trip like this, after all, I think age is setting in....:p
