At 6pm, two cars were set to leave Ipoh heading to Taiping. As we entered the highway, the traffic was clear on our direction heading north but however, traffic was rather heavy and the flow slow heading south towards Kuala Lumpur which just kept only one thing playing in our minds, what would it be like later tonight when we return, would it be the same crawl or would it have cleared by then.

However that thought was short lived by the next question which had popped in our minds, which exit shall we take on the highway as there were more than one possible exits to take but which would be the best option, it has been years since any one of us had visited this place, and me more than a decade.

To our surprise, the zoo authorities must have heard similar pleas of many in the past and the signage were well placed and clear, giving crisp directions to the zoo. We arrived at the public car park of the zoo at 8.15 pm. Despite we had to pay a hefty entrance fee of RM 16 per adult and RM 10 per child, we were still charged with another car park fee of RM 3 per entry. Having parked pour cars, we headed to the ticket counters to get the tickets.

There was quite a number of people there, I guess around the range of 100 to 150 waiting for their turns for the zoo tram. We waited in line for the tram. Seeing the crowd, I was hoping that the night safari shall be a good one indeed. Taiping Zoo was the first in Malaysia to organize the Night Safari activities which they commenced somewhere in early 1999 and then the rest of the zoo's followed suite. The only thing in my mind to cross refer when it comes to night safari was the Singapore Zoo's Night Safari, as I have never been to the rest in Malaysia.

We then got onto the tram and the journey started. It was just a brief ride of about 45 minutes, a journey of 3 kilometers covered on wheels. It was rather a disappointment as the cages were not well lighted in comparison to the Singapore Zoo and besides the tram ride, there was no other activities. A note of apology here, I could not have taken any good photographs as the tram was running rather fast and with the bad backlight, I could not take any good photographs in motion and having the aperture set at bulb exposure. Therefore, I managed to get only a handful of good photographs. However, there is another option, which was not quite suitable for me that night. You could plan to walk through the 3 kilometers journey and take marvelous photographs but since we had children and babies, it would not be a good idea though.

After the short excursion, the anticipation of which was greater than the actual, we headed back to the car park through a small underground tunnel which directly connects to the car park. Just before leaving, we decided to have a group photograph taken outside to mark the occasion. Then, at 9.45 pm, we left the zoo.
