Where I stayed

As planned, I arrived in Ipoh City at 1540. As the meeting and  my place of stay is at Impiana Casuarina Hotel, I exited at Simpang Pulai toll plaza. There was a slight traffic because of the numerous traffic lights along this stretch of road. Otherwise, the road was smooth. There was a lot of infrastructure changes especially the roads and new buildings along the road in what previously used to be greens. Hope it does not get as exploited as Kuala Lumpur in the future.

Checked in to the hotel and straight went in for the meeting and product demo. Conveniently, the meeting was held at the hotel meeting room as it was booked by my client. I guess they might have some corporate arrangements with this hotel. Upon check in, I was allocated room 314. The hotel is as majestic as it used to be, clean and nice, just the finish a little old.  As it was a weekend, the standard rooms were full and so were the superior rooms. Hence, I had to do with the deluxe room which cost RM 245.00 per night.

Once the demo was over at 5.30 pm, we took a short break before commencing the discussion session. For the break, we went to the coffee house here for the buffet tea session. The food was tasty and worth the price paid. They served Roti Jala with chicken curry, Cucur Udang, Pisang Goreng and tea. When they said chicken curry, I thought it would be like the hotels in Kuala Lumpur where they would only serve the curry, but here, the gravy was thick and it was full of chicken chunks and potato.

The price per pax is only RM 12.00 . I wonder if they would be able to serve at this price in Kuala Lumpur, surely the hotel would be full everyday. Thats Ipoh is guess, food is cheap as always. Everything is made to order, nothing is precooked therefore, you have to wait some time before the food is served and the chef actually prepares it at the lounge in front of your eyes. Half an hour of tea break and then we resumed to the meeting room to continue the discussion.  The discussion went on until 1930 and then went over to the room for a short break.

Met up with the guys again at 2030 and went out for dinner, at the same coffee house again. After the lengthy discussions, back to the room at 2300. I was too tired to go out for the day and decided to call it a night. Hopefully I would be able to visit at least one cave temple in Ipoh tomorrow and that would also be after I check out at mid day tomorrow. Still have another meeting in the morning after breakfast.

One thing I observed about the staff here this time, all of them seemed to be working under some kind of pressure. Maybe they are not happy with the management. Later at night after dinner I managed to have a casual chat with one of the employees. It seems that this hotel has recently been acquired by the Impiana Group and they had fired most of the old employees including the chefs and many of those left are just waiting for their time of being terminated or told to take voluntary service settlement. And these senior staff were being replaced by fresh graduates. Hmmm  now I understand why they were so frustrated looking.

Nice hotel, despite its age.

Hi Jay, yes it is. But I belief that still more could be done out of it.
