From the lunch stop, we had passed the Rokan Ulu border and the entire stretch of the journey looks like an oil palm plantations on both sides. Not too far from here, actually exactly 69 Kilometres from Muara Takus, you would see a small signage of the caves. At this signage, you would need to turn left into the village. This comes under Kabun district in Rokan Ulu.

After this signage, it is best to ask the locals or pay a local some money to take you to the caves. Actually, we got lost so many times and went up and down that road finding for the place. There is no signage after this. Sad to find that such a nice location does not have the necessary promotion required from the Indonesian government.

Finally, after wasting 22 Kilometers up and down the village, we stopped and got a local to drive us directly to this place. He and his friends, in 2 motor bikes, guided us to this place. And they also suggested that we would not be able to the caves without their help. Hence we agreed for their assistance.

The locals gave us their motor bike except for one guy who was guiding us. I sat on his bike and we went through some village roads. After around 1 kilometer of motorbike ride, we had to come to a stop. From there, it was trekking. Trust me, I almost regretted coming here as I was completely not prepared for this kind of hike.

No treks to follow and the grass was higher than us. We had to cross mangrove swamps, I mean really remove our shoes and walk through the swamps, the cross rivers. My entire slacks was filled with mud right up to my thigh level and my socks was soaking. Some of them in this group fell a few times in the river as well.

The trek took almost 45 minutes through dense forest and finally we arrived at the caves. There was a monitor lizard which greeted us at the mouth of the caves. This guy was more than 6 feet long. As much as we was afraid of him, he was also afraid of us and the moment he saw us, he disappeared quickly.

Not to forget, we also came across some cobras and pythons which were swimming through the forest as well. Finally, we could not go deep into the caves but only managed to see two of the seven caves. This place got its name from a cluster of seven caves. I managed to get some of their names from the internet. Five of them are Gua Sungai Cawan, Gua Langkuk, Gua Sungai Panturun, Gua Sungai Lo and Gua Sungai Pisang.

The sight of the caves was breathtaking and the experience was great. For a moment we forgot the pains that we went through to get to the caves in the first place. Then we walked back to the place where we had parked the vehicle. The guide then suggested that since we had come so far, it is better to visit another near by river which is a nice place to catch a swim. We all agreed.

After a short drive and walk of around 15 minutes, we reached that place. It is within the same area, just about 1 kilometer from the earlier spot that we had parked. Again, there was no signage here.  We walked to the stream and had some good time there. Did not really swim because none of us came prepared for this but just soaked our legs and did a clean up from the earlier mud and mess.

Then we walked back to the car. We spent about 30 minutes in this river. Sorry, I do not know the rivers name as even the locals did not know. As a token of appreciation, we paid the local guys IDR 100,000 as a token for bringing us around this place. We left this place at 1556.

My pants was soaking wet and the first thing in my mind was to go to the Mall in Pekanbaru and buy a pair of slacks and socks immediately. From here, all the way back, all of us were tired and mostly throughout the journey, we just slept off.
