Where I stayed
It was a very leisurely day today. We relaxed in the room until noon and then we checked out heading to our next destination.
Before leaving the town of Kulim, I wanted to show my father around this little town. I have been here recently for a similar meeting but for my father, the last time he was here was at least 20 years ago.
There have been so much developments which have been taking place here and I just drove through town shopping at certain points which interested us. Finally, as it is almost ritual like for me, it was a brief stop at the Nagarathar Thandayuthapani Temple here in this town.
This is not the main temple here, the biggest is a Mariamman Temple and this temple is frequented more by the Nagarathar community. The temple was modest yet, it boasted a huge piece of land which is owned. The design of the temple was quite standard to any Nagarathar owned temple ad you can see from the photographs attached here.
After this stop, it was almost 1 pm and we were feeling quite hungry. As I was using my GPS device to guide me all along this journey, I decided to let the GPS suggest some good food here. I have done this in the past where I just select the kind and category of food and I points me to the various outlets with details on the distance, type of food available, opening hours, contact details and even some recommendations. I have tried this feature so many times and it has never let me down.
I decided to go with one of the recommendations, which is a place called Big Pot Chicken Rice. In less than 10 minutes, we were already at this outlet. The stall was very crowded and we had to wait a while before we got our seats. The main dish is honey roasted chicken rice and it was delicious. We had to que at the counter to get our food and from my observation, there were loads of people coming in and doing take aways.
For the one hour that I was there, easily 50 birds of chicken were sold. The price a mere RM 4.50 per person which works out around USD 1.50 per meal. Ain't that cheap!
Not it is time for us to head of of Kulim heading south to Seberang Perai in the state of Penang for another brief stop.
