Where I stayed
This was a very unexpected trip. I had to head to Ipoh for some work and since I was there during the Thaipusam period, I felt that I might as well record what I can during my stay here.
Thaipusam in Malaysia is celebrated in many Lord Murugan Temples across the country and the most famous ones being Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur, Thanneermalai Temple in Penang Island, Subramaniar Temple in Sungai Petani, Kallumalai Temple in Ipoh and also Subramaniar Temple in Johor Baru.
As for Ipoh, the procession begins at the Mariamman Temple in Buntong and heads to Sri Subramaniar Temple (Kallumalai) near the DR Park, just adjacent to the General Hospital in Ipoh. The event that I managed to record was basically on the eve of Thaipusam where the procession begins at the Mariamman Temple in Buntong.
As of this time, the Silver Chariot has already left this temple and headed towards to Kallumalai Temple in town. Here all milk pot bearers as well as Kavadi bearers convene to begin the prayers. This starts from just before midnight all the way to late evening the next day.
As of now, it is just past midnight as the Kavadi bearers are slowly building up at this temple. Even at this moment, the temple was so crowded and luckily the weather was pleasant. Though I was not able to take more photos from the next day's main event, however I felt like posting this entry in lieu of those who have never heard of this temple. At least you get to see more of this temple from these photos.
