Where I stayed
Earlier during the day, the driver informed me that later this evening we shall be heading to view sunset at a beach in the area called Lhoknga which was the worst devastated beach during the tsunami of 2004. Here, entire villages were washed out killing close to a 100,000 people.
Honestly, I was hoping to see much of the devastation and probably and place which would seem uninhabited. As we left the hotel around six in the evening, it took us almost a 45 minute drive out of the city through some mountainousness roads heading to this sea fronting place.
To my surprise, when I arrived here, the only thing I could see was sheer beauty of nature. It seemed so serene and beautiful as if nothing had happened and this area was never affected in any way. Of course, today there are no settlements here but this is one of the most famous beaches.
The beach itself is not safe for swimming and people are not allowed to swim here too but there is another end to this beach which is used for surfing. But, on contrary, there were quite a number of locals just sitting by the beach and just staring deep into the sea.
To me, it seemed like beauty that they were admiring but honestly, we do not know what actually ran through their minds, could be a replay of the devastation that had happened here, or perhaps seeing their relatives and family being washed back helplessly into sea. I guess, this is something we would never know and it was too sensitive a matter for me to even ask the driver. I am sure that even he may have had some story attached to this beach.
As for me, this was one of the most beautiful sunsets which I have seen. This was the first time that the sunset itself was in phases and at each phase, it emanated a different color and hue, starting from yellowish shade, then to the typical orange then moving on to become purplish and finally blue then the darkness of night.
All this while being here, I did not take my eyes off my viewfinder and was consistently catching the various phases through my lenses. I do hope my photos here does some justice to the true beauty of this place.
Later that evening, we moved out before the sun completely set and he had another beach not very far from here to visit during the twilight hours as according to him, it is very beautiful there during that time. He being the local expert, I did not contest and we hopped on into the car and then just followed to wherever he took us.
