Honolulu is busy--it's a big, busy city with tons of tourists everywhere.  We were staying back on Waikiki for our last two nights in Hawaii.  We were very fortunate to have met some wonderful people in Honolulu and were borrowed a car for our last day--woohoo!  So we took full advantage of that and drove up the east coast all the way up to the North Shore.

We started the morning by stopping and snorkeling at Hanama Bay.  Although it is brown coral (which I don't think it's supposed to be), it is pretty fantastic to go snorkeling in.  Super easy swimming and maneuvering and lots of cool fish down there.  There are lots of people and you have to pay to get in (unless you're Hawaiin), $8 each and you're also required to watch a quick film about not stepping on the coral or feeding the fish.  Totally worth it.  Bring your own food though--we got really taken by a $9.00 limp, white-bread  turkey sandwich.......$9.00!!!  Anyhoo, anytime you can bring your own food in Hawaii do so, it's not cheap to eat out in our experience

We did find some wonderful food in Honolulu--mostly at The Yard House in Waikiki; excellent food, beers and atmosphere.  I'll give a shout out to the Puka Dog place too, most expensive "hot dog" I've ever had but yum-mee.

After getting our fill of Hanama Bay we continued our drive up north.  Gorgeous scenery along the way, lots that you end up stopping at with all the other tourists.  We stopped and had lunch at a shrimp truck which was as good as it sounds.

Further north we stopped to watched some big wave surfers.  I could have sat watching them all day, super-scary and exciting.  It made me glad that Ron didn't want to learn how to surf, yikes!   It was getting late so we headed back to the big city and to return the car.  Really a fun last day.
