There cannot be a bigger contrast than traveling from oil rich Dubai with excess and wealth, sky scrapers, malls, a 7 star hotel to rural Ethiopia, where people are living in many ways as they have for a thousand years.  We landed in Addis Ababa around eight in the morning, but were soon on our way south to the Lake Langano region, a four to five hour journey on the busy road heading towards the port in Djibouti.  The main road is well paved, it is the livestock, slow trucks, buses and people that make driving along scary.  Fortunately the short night helped us drift in and out of sleep most the way down.  The last bit of the trip travels a bumpy, and this time muddy, dirt road to Lake Langano where we met up with the Water is Life (http://waterislifeint.org/) team.  Access to clean water is a huge problem in Ethiopia, but Water is Life is making a difference one well at a time.  We were fortunate to be a small part of a well dig, pulling on the rope to use the purcussion method of drilling by hand.
