The trip up from Panama went really smoothly. We booked tickets the day before we left (had to pay the full $12.50 for a ticket to San Jose even though we were getting off half way). Bus ride went smoothly - had to get out of the bus and have our bags sniffed by drug dogs on the Panama side, then complete immigration there and walk over to the Costa Rica side (bags went over on the bus). Then complete immigration in Costa Rica, take out our bags and show them to customs there and that was it. Total time 3 1/2 hours, including an hour at the border.

Staying at a really nice little place in Palmar Norte (which is a tiny little town, that is quite like Palmerston North - I'm sure the similarity in names isn't just a coincidence). The name of the hostel is Brunka Lodge and it has a swimming pool and TV with Animal Planet & Discovery - what more could you ask for in a little town that has no reason for existing? :)

Still, this afternoon they're having their annual Fiesta del Rio (River Festival) with the usual dance/drum troops and plenty of tasty local food to try. It's all about timing!

Tomorrow we're off to Peninsula de Osa which has a large national park where we're going to be spending the next 5 nights...
