Hi!!
We left Cheetah Park early on Thursday morning at 6am and headed towards our bushcamp destination in the desert. On our way, we stopped off at the "White Lady Rock Art". These are famous rock paintings that date back thousands of years. They were located amongst mountains in the desert. We spent a couple hours there and Jeremy hiked up to see the paintings, while Suzanne took a nap on the truck since she rose early to do her shift of cook group and didn't care to see the art.
We and the other Oasis truck drove on to our bushcamp and arrived about 3pm. The camp was situated amongst the desert mountains with nothing around for miles and miles. The weather was really cold and windy that evening, but the tents were actually quite warm because the sand and rocks underneath our sleeping mats were radiating heat from underneath. It was probably alot like a hot rock massasge, but free of charge!
The next morning, both trucks were stuck in the sand. Our truck had become stuck in the sand when we had arrived the day before and didn't think it had been all that bad, but dug ourselves deeper when we tried to leave. The other Oasis truck had been stuck a bit too, but were able to dig themselves out in a few minutes and make it back to the main dirt road. After our first attempt of digging, we just lodged ourselves further down. On our next attempt, we dug even further down, placed larger, flatter rocks under the tires and a bit of muscle power, we finally managed to free ourselves from the sand.
We then headed towards the Atlantic Ocean and the Seal Colony. Since most of the roads in Namibia are dirt and therefore VERY dusty, we had the side-flaps of the truck up so the air was able to circulate. As a result of doing this though, we were freezing in the back of the truck and most of us were wrapped up in our sleeping bags to keep warm. Once we reached the beginning of a paved road, Jason pulled over and asked if we wanted to put the sides back down. We enthusiastically took him up on the offer. We soon reached Seal Colony around 11am and watched them lounge on the beach for about an hour.
We then headed off to Swakopmund!!
