Hello from Salzburg!!

After a quick 2 hour train ride, we arrived into Salzburg - the town known for Mozart and the Sound of Music! We checked into the hostel and then lazily walked around the center, as we were both quite sore from the hike the day before.

Friday morning, we took the Sound of Music tour which Suzanne had been looking forward to. The tour took us around the various sites where the movie was filmed. The guide also talked about the real Von Trapp family and the various liberties Hollywood took in making the movie. Of course, Hollywood romanticized the movie!! The guide, Peter, was quite entertaining in telling us tidbits of the film and the city of Salzburg. While on the tour, we met a couple from Utah who were travelling for a month. (We would later run into them two days later in Munich.) That afternoon, we came back to the center of Salzburg and walked up the hill to the fortress. Throughout time, the fortress was home to the various Archbishops of Salzburg. The views from the top provided us great views of the city of Salzburg and the surrounding countryside.

Saturday, we went to the town of Fuschl, 50 minutes outside of Salzburg, and went tobogganing. Fuschl was one of the lake towns we passed during our Sound of Music tour the prior day. What an exciting thrill tobogganing was!! We sat on a luge-type scooter and was rope towed up a metal track to the top of the course. Then, after explaining how to start and stop, they released us down the tobogganing course. It was a lot longer than we had anticipated, but had sooo much fun!! We each had 3 runs down!! Afterwards, we hung out in a park next to Lake Fuschl, read the paper and napped in the sun.

Sunday, we packed up, had breakfast and headed off to catch our train to Munich.

Cheers!
- Jeremy and Suzanne
