Learned the history of the house we’re staying in at
breakfast and then left for Cradle Mountain. Turns out the owner spent time
with the BLM in Spokane in the late 50’s and had been throughout the western
U.S. including going salmon fishing on Puget Sound.  Took a short driving tour of downtown Launceston
before heading on our 5 hr. drive to Cradle Mountain.

This drive was another spectacular winding road scenery
filled adventure.  Had our picnic lunch
in a park in Sheffield, known for its murals of local scenes painted on
building walls. We stopped at a wildlife sanctuary and walked with wallabies,
wombats, eagles, quolls, and Tasmanian devils.
Pretty cool.

Arrived at Cradle Mountain Lodge at Lake St. Clair National
Park around 3 pm. This is designated a World Heritage site since 1922.  Immediately went on 3 short walks. The trails
are all elevated boardwalks with wire mesh attached.  The area is a rain forest with lots of moss
and algae.   Around the lodge we’ve seen
possums, wallabies, wombats, echidna, and other wildlife.  This place is awesome!

Just watched the movie "The Hunter" filmed in Tasmania last night. You'll have to catch it when you return if you haven't seen it.

Love the murals. It is amazing how you keep meeting people who have family here or have been here for some reason. Small world really says it.
