Nothing can prepare you for seeing the Redwoods in Northern California.  Comparable only to the Grand Canyon, in my experience, I really could not do the area justice in one day.  I felt like I was stopping every 100 yards for a new photo opp and only really stayed on the roadside groves. SAD! The weather really made the trip as well, so when I head back to spend some quality time it will definitely be in the summer.  I scoped out some campgrounds while I was there as well and it seemed that Burlington Campground was centrally located and was next to a tourist information center that would be good to get hiking info.

I finally got into Eureka after deciding that I was only going to get more depressed that I couldn't stay and spent the afternoon in downtown Eureka.  I spent a bit more to be close to downtown, which was worth it even if the accommodation doesn't match the price.  The only other place to consider is the Bayview Hotel, but only for the view.  You are still outside the place you want to be in Eureka.

Eureka is known for oysters....I was on a mission to find some and was obsessing about getting some fresh shucked gorgeousness as soon as I got to town.  The rumor on the street was that Cafe Waterfront was the place to go.  Too bad for me that they were out due to the Valentine's Day rush.  What the heck selfo's?!?!  I think the horror on my face convinced my waiter, Brian, to take pity on me and he gave me a couple of oyster shooters as a consolation.  It was pretty darn good, even if it wasn't my fresh shucked dream dinner!

Anyway, today will be hard to beat but hopefully the Redwood National Park will be all it's meant to be.  Thankfully my drives are getting shorter by the day!
