Felt a bit over MayaŽd by the time weŽd been to Yaxchilan, a nice
jungley ruin accessed by boat along the Rio Usumacinta, which separates
Mexico and Guatemala, and Bonampak which is smaller and still has 1000
year old Mayan frescos on the walls in a number of buildings.  The Maya
is this area were the only ones not conquered by the Spanish,
presumably why the frescos werenŽt destroyed.  We stayed the night in a
Lacandon Mayan village - everyone wore Y shaped white garments that
looked like nighties to be honest and had very long hair.  It took a
while to realise the daughter of the family we stayed with was actually
a son of about 12!

He drove us to catch the bus to the boat half an hour up and  across
the the river to Guatemala this morning.  Quite the nicest border
crossing so far.  The rest of the trip to Flores was much less
interesting.  Tomorrow the ruins at Tikal and Tuesday we go to Belize
and some serious sun, sea, scuba diving till be leave in just over a
week.
