Our flight from Casablanca was supposed to take off at 1 AM, but it ended up taking off at 1:30 because the plane was late arriving at the airport. Apparently, the plane was flying from Germany and the French air traffic controllers were striking, so they had to fly around French airspace... the French seem to always be striking. But we eventually took off, then landed three hours later in Frankfurt at 6 AM German time. Luckily, we were both able to sleep well on the flight, so we were not too debilitatingly tired when we landed. We cleared customs without problems and took the S-bahn to Frankfurt's Old Town.

Since the Old Town is about 2 block wide, it took us approximately 15 minutes to walk around it a few times and take a bunch of pictures. We spent the rest of our 3 hour layover eating pastries and shopping for stein/Kinder bueno bars. It was a great afternoon.

We headed back to the airport at 11 AM to cruise through security and board our flight at 11:30. The plane was totally gigantic, so it took FOREVER to board. I have status on United, so we were allowed to board in the 1st class line, which might have not really been a good thing since we then had to sit on the plane for an extra 1.5 hours before we took off… oh well! At least we didn’t have to stand in line.

The flight from Frankfurt to Washington DC took about 8.5 hours, and we slept at least 6 of them. The food was pretty great, but the plane was old so we didn’t get to choose what movie we wanted to watch. Probably for the best-- we were pretty sleep deprived. Will post again from the Lou!
