I have met some really great people from all over the world. A lot of people come to Benaulim every year to escape the winter months of Europe. Some of them have been coming for over 25 years and will spend up to six months here. Friends from previous years meet up and it is a continuous series of reunion and then a few weeks/ months later a farewell party.
A group of us caught the bus up to the Saturday Night Market a few weeks ago
My mate Paul came out for 2 weeks to sample my lifestyle. It took him a few days to settle in and I think he was a bit stressed to start with but just as he found the Goan Groove it was time to go home. He hired a scooter to get around on but found the traffic and pedestrians a bit of a nightmare. So fortunately I had the use of the scooter for a week which was great fun.
Paul, Rachel and I visited a spice farm which was very interesting. Had a great guide who explained it all to us. It was amazing that most of the spice plants are grafted onto palm trees and then grow up the trees. so not only is the coconut are betel nuts harvested but so are the spices (pepper, vanilla etc) 'climbing' the trees. After the tour of the plants we had a great Indian style buffet and a glass of Feny
My friend Mike who stays every year has found an old bicycle that belonged to his friend which I now use. It was half hidden in the back of a shed behind a big pile of coconuts. Once we had dragged it out, broken the lock, cleaned it and pumped the tyres I was good to go. Its a one speed 'sit up and beg' style bike but all the roads are flat so it is easy and fun to get around. Once we cleaned off the dirt I read the name - it is a Hero, model 'EDS' the EDS stands for Extra Durability and Shining!!!!
