After a very sad Saturday (Ecuador lost badly against Argetina in the World Cup Qualification - in south America, this can definitely ruin good vibes) at Rene's Milk bar (you get there the best Milkshakes, but be ensured that you definitely do not need to eat anything for the next... hours!)...

... it was time to go to Salango, for a trip to Isla Salago. Here many local birds are having their base for the daily hunt for fish plus kinder garden and 'aviation center' for the youngest.

Salango, a small fishermen town with a big fish-fabric. It was a 10-minutes drive to the north. Aurelio, the owner of our hostel brought us here with his car so we did not have to take a bus or tuk-tuk! After we met our captain, they prepared the boat for our trip. After 15 minutes, they were ready and we put on our life-jackets. Lucky us as we were the only two on the little fishers boat and so we were getting into the boat and ... started cruising. In the beginning it was quiet but the last 30 minutes we were going through rough water until we arrived to the southern part of Isla Salango and saw had perfect view upon a beautiful scenery of waves smashing against the rocks, birds hunting for their fish and the ever-so-green island!

Surrounded by Pelicanos, Fregats and some other birds (whose names we already forgot) were diving deep for their food . During our boat trip, we really came close by all kind of wildlife that you almost could touch it.

All around the island we got to view those fantastic places and finally ended up snorkeling at the golden beach! As we are used to the water temperatures here, we just jumped in the water directly refreshing ourselves. Then we got the masks and snorkels and of we went exploring the unexpected! Fun though, as Jorgen did not shave his beard for a few days, and so the mask did not fit so well and ended up half of the time clearing the mask. But nevertheless we saw some beautiful water life near the coast... although there are probably greater places to do so - but who cares?

Before we knew it, time was up so we had to got back to the boat and went ashore again! It was a really nice experience especially because we were only the two of us so we had all for ourselves! Very luxurious indeed, and much preferred to the royal snorkeling yachts that arrive from Puerto Lopez.

After all te experience we got to Puerto Lopez to enjoy some banana bread, do some shopping and ask about the bus options to Canoa - our next destination. Fortunately we had not booked the tickets yet - probably the inner guts telling us that we would stay more days in lovely Las Tunas!!
