Today, we also would pay a visit to a small village (La Tortuga) to take a blind man with us for a walk on the beach! To reach this village, we made first a bus ride to Piata and from there we had to take a combi (mini-bus). The north of Peru is really poor,. that is even reflected by the landscape: sand, rocks, sand and more rocks. Or just simple: dessert.
Though, in this area gas and oil has been found, so maybe in the near future this will become a more developed area. The only thing here is that they do not know how to develop and to which area this belongs
We arrived in La Tortuga and found the blind man. We took him with a tuk-tuk (yes, all five of us!) to the beach nearby: Playa de Lobos. What a beautiful bay! Fishermen had just returned with their fresh caught fish and were preparing them for transport back to the village. We had a nice time, although we could not understand much from the old fishermen who's eyes are now just too bad to work - as he was speaking a kind of dialect which was for us really hard to understand. Fortunately Laura and Raul are native speakers and so they could do better than us.
However, we found out that when he was able to see, that he was a fishermen to and therefore he loved to go to the beach. Furthermore we learned that the children at the beach, currently helping with the fish are going out to the sea to fish, alone, when they are 8 or 9 years old. So no school anymore, just fishing to make a living and feed the family.
